FILM CLASSIFICATION RESEARCH

for our thriller opening sequence we have to decide on a suitable certificate for the movie. There is a particular company that clacifies films and movies which is called the British board of film classification. thsi company deals with claacifying the movies that go in cinemas and are sold at shops which has been done since it was set up in 1912.

the films are classified due to age suitability, there has to be a certain amount of detail and graphic is certain aspects which enables them to decide is it a U,PG, 12, 15, 18 or 18U.

for our fi we would like the certifcate to be 15 as it can be classified as one and 18 would be too extreme and and 12 would mean we cant use flashing images that may scare or frighten the children.

below are the certain thing a certificate of 15 must have; i got this infomation from the following site.

Discrimination
The work as a whole must not endorse discriminatory
language or behaviour.

Drugs
Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not
promote or encourage drug misuse. The misuse of easily
accessible and highly dangerous substances (for example,
aerosols or solvents) is unlikely to be acceptable.

Horror
Strong threat and menace are permitted unless sadistic
or sexualised.

Imitable behaviour
Dangerous behaviour (for example, hanging, suicide and
self-harming) should not dwell on detail which could be
copied. Easily accessible weapons should not be glamorised.

Language
There may be frequent use of strong language (for example,
‘fuck’). The strongest terms (for example, ‘cunt’) may be
acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated
use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable.

Nudity
Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without
strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a
non-sexual or educational context.

Sex
Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail.
There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour,
but the strongest references are unlikely to be acceptable
unless justified by context. Works whose primary purpose is
sexual arousal or stimulation are unlikely to be acceptable.

Theme
No theme is prohibited, provided the treatment is
appropriate for 15 year olds.

Violence
Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction
of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to
be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also
unlikely to be acceptable.
There may be detailed verbal references to sexual violence
but any portrayal of sexual violence must be discreet and
have a strong contextual justification

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

RESEARCH INTO AUDIENCE

TREATMENT IDEA NO 2.

the opening sequence starts of with the not so ordinary dream of the protagonist, Pandora Blake. this film plays alot on dramatic irony as little did Pandora know, her dream was not a dream but a vision from the future, a perminition. This permonition leads her into the mission of saving Michealle Cunnigham, but the question is from what?

Pandora's dream/permonition
Pandoras dream is set in the slightly dark lit woods, with alot of trees around and people far from out of sight. with in the dream she see's a women in her early 20's running away. this is shown with a POV shot however it is unclear whos POV shot it is. this could be interpreted as michealle running away from Pandora or a KILLER chasing Michealle, this will create a red herring and keep the audience in suspence. this red herring is created when Michealle looks back at the camera several times and on the last one when she is on the floor pleading for a her life as the camera comes closer. with in these shot we see blood and scars around Michealles body which connotes she is in danger and had been abused. the dream/ permonition ends with this pov shot where she is on the flor and the killer about to

Getting ready to go out
hufffing and puffing Pandora wakes up from her 'nightmare' with a shock, she take a few seconds to calms her slef down then goes to the bathroom washes her face, brushes her teeth, goes back into the bedroom looks at the time gets dressed then leaves the house on her way to cafe nero to have breakfast.

on the way to cafe nero
(Pandora lives alone and is a very independent girl but doesent no how to cook, so she relies on takeaways and cafe for breakfast lunch and dinner.)
on her way there she sees the girl from her dream and to show this we will use eye line match but when this happens Pandora does not think much of it and continues with her day to day routine.

in cafe nero
The setting is set with an establishing shot here, as this is one of the places where the opening sequence will finish. a long shot of her showing Pandora walking in to the cafe with over the shoulder shots of her ordering her food. tracking shot of her walking downstairs ans sitting down. Pandora takes out a newspaper from her bad and starts reading. she then reaches for her coffe...
2nd permonition
which takes us straight into her second permonition of the day. this permontition isnt as serious as the first one but it helps Pandora realise the dream that she had before wasnt a dream but a permontion of the future. in this permonition she sees her coffee spilling which even though seems insignificant it makes Pandora aware and confused.

permonition coming to life realisation of permonition
Pandora comes out of her permontion huffing and puffing this is were she spots the same girl from her dream and at the same time the second permontion take motion and becomes real. which automtically makes Pandora realise she has this supernatural power to see the future. The opening sequence end by having little clips showing the 1st permonition, then a short clip on Pandora looking at the girl in cafe and then another shoty of the girl in the cafe.

Thriller logo 2

Though the gate is actually a door. Another idea for the production logo. An opened door with whatever is inside is hidden to create enigmas. It is also simple and easy to remember and creates mysteriousness as the door is open and glowing.

by lottie

The logo complete. There have been a few changes such as the tree having a base, the crow looking slightly different and the word "ENTERTAINMENT" is underneath the tree.

PLOT/TREATMENT!!!!

MEDIA PLOT IDEA
30/1/10
Person A – Charlotte (restricted narration)
Person B - Mica
1) Identity (working title only)
(Still keep Shap opening)
(flashback?) A and B are acquaintances; they have previously met before (bus stop; mention mutual friend/boy?). A has now become infatuated with B; B seems to have everything that A wants. A wants to get to know B, in fact she wants to become B (take over her identity). B begins to understand what A is doing but B has a secret (killed abusive father?) of her own that no-one must know about. B will have to get rid of A (kill?) before A gets her.
A meets with B in a car park, B is holding a hammer

Charlotte and Michelle happen to be acquaintances; they had previously met before at the bus stop through another friend who will not be mentioned. With more “accidental” meetings between Charlotte and Michelle, Charlotte has now becoming infatuated through Michelle more happy life. Michelle begins to understand Charlotte motives of taking over her identity. However Michelle has her own little secret of her own (she killed her abusive father) that no one must know about. This would lead her to get rid/kill before Charlotte finds out.

Set in modern time London where busy people make their way from home to work and back again only every so often breaking the system to stop and wonder about the world, we follow a story a “unique” situation between two people. Michelle a working class 17 year old girl who is enjoying her adolescent youth while Charlotte who seems to have the exact same life on the outside slowly unravels deep roots of mental issues. The two become acquaintances through a friend and this leads to frequent “accidental” meetings. Charlotte soon revels in Michelle’s life until she feels she’ll be better off being Michelle.
With a juxtaposition soundtrack to oppose the psychological film it is shot in mostly flashbacks; it unravels the course of their time together as we learn more about Charlotte’s mentality of becoming infatuated with Michelle and we soon find out why Michelle sees life for the better
It’s a race against time for Michelle as she uncovers Charlotte’s intention of taking over her identity and worse, finding out her secret before it comes out.
The film opens with Charlotte, slowly walking along a side street until she ends up at a children’s park. She decides to waste time on the swings continually looking at her watch before she has to meet up with Michelle who is currently making her way from the train station to a supermarket car park.
